About

‘I love to make clothing that highlights the vibrancy and creativity of women who do not want to disappear into the background.’
 –Bryony Richardson, Owner & Designer

About Us
We’re an independently UK-owned clothing brand based between North Yorkshire and London. We've been crafting unique, high-quality clothing for the past fifteen years.

Our small team of six, led by our founder, Bryony Richardson, produces every aspect of our designs, including the original prints that have become our trademark.

Everything we do is grounded in sustainability and ethical practices, strongly emphasising traceability. We have created a supply chain with high transparency by working with just a few manufacturers and producers as locally as possible.

Although we predominantly sell clothing online, we run our business from our studio/shop, just a short walk from Kings Cross station. We love how this allows us to meet our customers in person and learn more about them and their lives. The typical Palava fan is, just like us, creative, thoughtful and with busy lives.

Where are our clothes made?
We work with just three small companies. For the bulk of our orders, we are incredibly proud to have worked with the same small family-run factory on the outskirts of London for over eight years. We love how easy it is for us to drop by and oversee production. Our heritage-style wool knitwear is made by a manufacturer in Mansfield, while our organic cotton cardigans and tops are made in Turkey.

Sustainability
We also care deeply about our planet and carefully consider each step of the production process to ensure our clothing is made as ethically and sustainably as possible. You can find the most recent information on this by visiting our website here: https://palava.co/pages/sustainability

How to Wear Palava
Mix and match our tops and bottoms with stunning primary-coloured separates like our bright-coloured lightweight dungarees, linen palazzos or organic cotton cardigans in the summer. We have comfy corduroy trousers, cosy accessories, and heritage-style wool knitwear in the winter.
Our dresses are often bought for special occasions – from weddings to parties and festive celebrations. We know they will be popular for the coronation celebrations this year. But they are also incredibly practical – designed for movement and comfort as well originality.

Heritage Style with a Palava Twist

We’re Palava, an independently UK-owned clothing brand based between North Yorkshire and London. We've been crafting unique, high-quality clothing for the past fifteen years.

Everything we do is grounded in sustainability and ethical practices, strongly emphasising traceability. We have created a supply chain with high transparency by working with just a few manufacturers and producers as locally as possible.

In 2018, we set ourselves the challenge of creating the highest quality and lowest carbon footprint item we had ever made. This led to the birth of the Molly Cardigan, our inaugural Heritage piece.

This year, we're broadening the Heritage collection to champion the craft of other small UK companies still employing traditional methods with the same aim – to produce long-lasting, premium items with low mileage and low environmental impact.

The Molly Cardigan
Almost no new wool garments on sale in the UK are from British wool - most fleeces are discarded - yet this is the one fabric we can produce here.

Made from Yorkshire wool, every part, process, and production of this cardigan happens within a 70-mile radius – even its pewter buttons are hand-cast in the UK.

Inspired by a 1950s vintage ski cardigan, it is a Palava take on a classic. This year, the same design is joined by a sleeveless jumper.

You can read more about the story behind Molly’s creation here.

Palava Wax Cotton Trench Coats
Based in Dundee and with over 150 years of experience, working with Halley Stevensons was an honour to produce these dry wax cotton trench coats. All the dyeing and finishing take place under one roof.

We have created just a small run of these high-quality coats in bottle green or mustard – lined with our original prints.

Eschewing modern synthetic fabrics, this method came to prominence in the 1930s (originally with paraffin wax) and has been reimagined for us with a new innovative, hybrid wax blend which is biodegradable.

Tweed Riding Jackets
Our founder, Bryony, fondly remembers a tweed riding jacket her grandmother handmade for her mother as a girl, which she rediscovered in a trunk a couple of years ago. A true heritage piece, the fabric was of such high quality that it had withstood the test of time.

With this in mind, she looked to recreate it to the same exacting standards - in authentic Harris tweed and lined in two of our original prints.

We worked with Kenneth Mackenzie of Stornoway, the oldest and only independently owned mill still operating there, to create this classic item. Suitable for transitioning from office wear to a stylish cover-up or even a brisk country walk, it is incredibly versatile. And like all these pieces, we hope it will be cherished and worn for many years to come.

Palava - The Adventure - AW23

‘They say there’s no such thing as bad weather—only unsuitable clothing.
But what about clothing that suits the weather AND your mood?’
–Bryony Richardson, Owner & Lead Designer

Palava has always been known for its bold and adventurous prints. Our customers are often stopped on the tube or train by people asking about a detail or pattern on an item of our clothing.

This season, we wanted to take that adventurous spirit even further by drawing inspiration from colours and patterns that evoke a sense of nostalgia for the great outdoors. With warm fabrics and cosy layers, our latest collection is designed to inspire you to get out and explore for yourself or cosy up at home.

Our latest collection showcases playful yet timeless designs that reflect our love of nature. From bird-watching or camping-inspired print dresses to heritage-style knitwear, each piece is crafted to inspire adventure and wanderlust.

At Palava, we believe that fashion should be beautiful and sustainable. Our collections always feature high-quality, comfortable, stylish, natural fabrics. We are committed to making fashion that looks good and feels good, whether you're out exploring the great outdoors or simply relaxing at home.
