Curtain Startup Saving UK Seamstresses

Stitched.co.uk, a London based curtain + blind startup, has moved quickly to respond to the Coronavirus outbreak. It is now on a mission to do more than make beautiful curtains and blinds, it's out to save an entire industry.

Following the temporary closure of its curtain making partner, Stitched co-founder, Elinor Pitt, was determined to keep customers orders flowing and started to contact local makers and small workrooms throughout the UK to see if they could help plug the gap.

"The response was overwhelming with lots of quality local makers keen to take on the work." says Elinor "Social distancing and the UK lockdown has hit some of the smaller workrooms and independent makers hard as they’re not set up to sell online and rely on visiting customers' homes.”

The team has moved quickly to plug local makers into their supply chain, keeping Stitched customers orders flowing and helping local workrooms and makers stay afloat.

Allison Drury, a Surrey based curtain maker now working with Stitched, said: 'When the country went into lockdown new orders dried up, working with Stitched has really helped to keep the order book full and workroom lights on at a difficult time for everyone'.

The company is proudly still stitching and is working hard to vet and onboard more local curtain makers to support as many of these small businesses as possible. And there are a lot of them, the UK spends £1.5bn on curtains every year.

Stitched is also offering up free video consultations for all customers who need help with measuring and design advice. So if curtains and blinds are on your coronavirus agenda, check out stitched.co.uk or search 'Stitched' on the appstore.

The New Way To Buy Your Curtains + Blinds

Buying high quality curtains + blinds online is time consuming, hard and fraught with risk. Step offline and you head into a world of murky pricing, pushy sales reps and variable quality.

London based disruptor brand, Stitched launched in 2018 to change this. Founders Elinor Pitt and Will Verrill saw a gap to use forward-thinking technology to provide a more convenient, personalised service online to deliver premium quality curtains + blinds that fit and transform customers homes.

Customers are guided through a simple 3 step process for getting their curtains + blinds.

Step 1 - customers order 5 free samples from a range of 240+ colourful, textured and eco fabrics that are milled in the UK and Europe.

Step 2 - with fabrics in hand, the Stitched team can show you how to measure up for the perfect fit, using personalised measuring guides and even video calls.

Step 3 - customers design their curtains or blinds in 3D and add any finishing touches before placing their order.

Curtains + blinds are delivered in 2 - 4 weeks and because the company works directly with partner mills they will never run out of stock.

The digitally native brand is really shaking up a fusty dusty outdated market. In August, it launched its new website full of fresh, design-led, inspirational content (including photos of real homes with Stitched curtains + blinds) and helpful information to demystify the curtain + blind buying process. And in September the company will launch an augmented reality app that will enable customers to try before they buy.

If you've just moved home, or have a room that needs a bit of a facelift, dressing your windows with Stitched curtains or blinds could be a very good place to start.
