A beautiful Victorian Davenport ceramic water jug, decorated in the highly sought-after Oak pattern. Produced at the Davenport factory in Longport, Staffordshire during the mid to late 19th century, this design is particularly prized by collectors of English transferware for its richly detailed botanical decoration.

Despite its name, the Oak pattern is far more than a simple oak leaf design, featuring an immersive woodland scene of textured oak bark, delicate ferns, brambles and wild ground flora, all printed in warm sepia tones and complemented by delicate blue border details around the neck. The elegantly curved strap handle carries matching transfer decoration, making the piece beautiful from every angle.

With its distinctive globular body and tall decorated collar, this jug was originally produced as a water pitcher, likely forming part of a Victorian washstand set. Today it makes a striking decorative piece, perfect displayed with seasonal foliage, on a dresser, or as part of a collection of antique English transferware.
