Almond is the softest of the four — a pale, warm sand tone carrying the cleft, riven texture of a quarried slate bed. It is the one to choose when you want the texture of split stone without the weight of a grey, and it lifts a north-facing room in a way the darker tones cannot. Finished to a V4 substantial variation, no two tiles are alike. Real slate is porous, delaminates and needs sealing. Porcelain gives you the same riven face with none of that: frostproof, impervious, rated F4 for heavy domestic traffic, and equally at home on an internal floor, a wall or a sheltered external wall. Note that Ardesia is not rectified, so it needs a slightly wider grout joint than a rectified tile — around 3mm — to absorb the small size tolerance. A warm sand grout keeps the riven texture reading as stone rather than a grid. Layout Options: A one-third stagger suits the slate look and echoes how real riven stone is laid. Dry-lay several packs and shuffle first — with V4 variation the tone shifts markedly tile to tile, and clustering the darker ones will show. Cleaning: Sweep and clean with warm water and a mild floor cleaner. Unlike natural slate this needs no sealing and will not flake, stain or shed.
