Birds, by Edward Lear. Ink and watercolour. England, late 19th century. Lear drew 16 of these comic birds during his stay in Northern Italy about 1880, for Charles Geffrard Pirouet, then a small boy staying at the same hotel as the artist. This print is a composite of six of them.
