Description
DeepL TranslateLeafy is a design inspired by a summer afternoon spent beneath the shade of a 200-year-old Copper Beech tree. Looking up through its dense canopy, light filters through layers of leaves and branches, creating shifting patterns of light and shadow. The experience is calm and immersive, offering a quiet sense of shelter beneath the tree.
This remarkable tree stands on the main lawn at Birmingham Botanical Gardens and predates the gardens themselves. It was already established when the grounds were designed in 1829 by the garden designer and botanist John Claudius Loudon, and it remains a defining feature of the landscape.
Leafy is presented in four colourways, each reflecting the changing tones of the Copper Beech tree throughout the seasons.
Clay takes its inspiration from the earthy palette of winter. It reflects the tones created during marcescence, the natural process in which some trees retain their dried, withered leaves through the colder months rather than shedding them in autumn.
