Description

Xinjiang, circa 1920 - this low, long sideboard is perfect for storage or as a base for a large TV, providing ample space behind its four doors. Made from thick pine, with a beautiful patina formed over the years, it originates from the province of Xinjiang in northwestern China. The intricate geometric carvings on the doors are representative of the daybeds typically found in the region, heavily influenced by the styles of neighbouring Central Asian countries. The bottom apron and spandrels are carved to give a decorative profile. The piece is a resized version of an old daybed, reduced in width and with the doors added from what were once fixed panels. Although the original bright colours have faded, traces of the once vibrant reds, greens, pinks, and blues can still be seen on the natural pine wood underneath.
