Part of a large rear extension to a 1920s bungalow in Haslemere, a historic market town in Surrey, this beautiful Classic Bespoke Shaker kitchen was designed and made by Searle & Taylor, the longest established kitchen design studio in Winchester, Hampshire. The open-plan layout also includes a dining area and sofas for lounging with interior design throughout by Wells and Maguire.

The owners wanted a functional space for the family, which would also serve as a large, light and airy hub for entertaining. Their brief included plenty of storage, a generous island for cooking and built-in or integrated appliances to be camouflaged from view.

Bespoke in-frame cabinetry features 30mm thick door and drawer fronts with 60mm Ogee edged door frames, painted in a mix of Little Greene’s Portland Stone and Farrow & Ball’s Hague Blue. Tall cabinets also include an elegant Georgian cornice on top while worksurfaces are all 30mm thick Misty Carrara Satinato quartz.

Creating a functional kitchen perfect for hosting, Searle & Taylor also added a breakfast station with pocket doors placed beside the glazed panel doors leading on to the garden, and a glass-fronted dresser-style cabinet that houses glassware and crockery and faces the task side of the large island.

The Hague Blue floor-to-ceiling Shaker panelled cabinetry conceals a Siemens fully integrated tall larder fridge and Liebherr tall freezer with ice-maker. Built-in single ovens installed on the island are also by Siemens, the vented downdraft induction hob is by Novy and cabinetry handles are all from the Gaumont range by Armac Martin. The Shaker double bowl ceramic sink is by Shaws of Darwen and is paired with a Quooker Fusion boiling water tap. Floor tiles are from Artisans of Devizes, the dining table, chairs and bar stools are from Andrew Martin and the pendant lights, Heathfield & Co.
