Two Stones, Cut Into Facets A brushed Shellstone limestone and honed Carrara White marble triangle mosaic on 30.2 x 23.7cm mesh sheets, by Hyperion Tiles. Shellstone is a sedimentary limestone laid down from fragments of shell and marine debris, and it wears that history openly — a warm cream ground flecked with paler shell casts and occasional fossil traces. Brushing it with abrasive heads softens the surface into a faint, worn undulation rather than a flat plane. Alongside it sits honed Carrara White, cooler and crisper, its grey veins drawn tight. The two together give a triangle field that shifts between warm and cool depending on which pieces catch the light. Triangles do something no square can: they read as a facet pattern from a distance and dissolve into texture close up. That makes this a good candidate for a wall you want to notice — the return of a shower, a chimney breast, the panel behind a basin. It also works underfoot in a cloakroom, where the brushed limestone gives useful grip. Remember that limestone is more porous than marble, so this is one to seal thoroughly and keep out of the direct spray of a wet room if you want the cream to stay even. Fix with a white flexible rapid-set adhesive. Layout: Triangles are unforgiving of a drifting line, so set out from a laser or chalked datum and check the alignment every two or three sheets. Dry-lay first and rotate sheets so the cream and white pieces are evenly scattered rather than clustering into bands. Cleaning: Warm water and a pH-neutral stone cleaner only. Acidic limescale removers, vinegar and bleach will etch a permanent dull mark into both the brushed Shellstone limestone and the honed Carrara marble. Visit Our Ascot Showroom Usually in stock.
