The art of flower pressing dates back to early human civilisation. Pressed garlands of flowers were found in the 3000 year old tomb of Tutenkhamun’s mother in Egypt. The Japanese call it Oshibana which became an art form in the 16th century, reaching Europe in the 19th century to become a popular hobby for enthusiasts and a useful way for botanists to catalogue plants and flowers.
The cosmos flower is made of 8 symmetrical magenta petals and is said to represent order and harmony in the universe. It is also said to symbolise tranquility, peace, innocence, and love.
