Description

Shanxi, circa 1860 With its thick, single plank top, chunky legs and irregular shaped stretchers, this bench is distinctly rustic in appearance. It comes from the central Chinese province of Shanxi and is made from elm wood, the pale, natural coloured surface now worn and weathered with a deep grained, cracked seat that shows all the signs of use over decades. Ideal today either for seating at a kitchen table or perhaps at the end of a bed, or used in a living room as a narrow coffee table with plenty of country charm.
