Description

The Japanese Maple Bloodgood Tree is a beautifully shaped decidious tree with small purple-red flowers in spring and purple leaves which turn brilliant red in autumn. Best in a sheltered spot protected from the wind. A lovely specimen tree but also suitable for a small garden or container. This purple Acer tree likes sun or semi-shade, fertile well-drained soil preferably neutral to acid.
The Acer palmatum ‘Atropurpureum’ is a deciduous tree grown for its leaves. 5 or 7 lobed gorgeous purple leaves that turn bright red in, Autumn. Their growth can be contained by keeping them in a pot so they are suitable for a small garden and patio although they are often planted as a specimen on a lawn or focal point in a garden.
Fully hardy, Acers require sun with some shade and fertile, well-drained soil. Thriving best in acid-to-neutral soil in a sheltered position is important, especially when young as the leaves can be damaged by wind. Prune lightly to keep their shape from September to October. Your tree will appreciate a good spring weed, mulch, and feed.
